Fish, any of approximately 34,000 species of vertebrate animals found in the fresh and salt waters of the world. Fishes are found almost everywhere in the world. Many species of fish are consumed as food in virtually all regions around the world. Fish has been an important source of protein and other nutrients for humans throughout history. The entire world is celebrated as one day (November 21st) as Fisheries Day.
Ramkrishna Ashram Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nimpith organized the World Fisheries Day at the Seminar Hall in the RAKVK, premises. The programme was attended by 122 participants including fish farmers, fishermen involved in deep sea fishing, students of Industrial Fish and Fisheries course of University of Calcutta and all the staff of RAKVK.
Officers of Reliance Foundation including Sri Pradip Panda, Project Manager, Assistant Director of Fisheries (Marine), South 24 Parganas, Govt. of West Bengal -Sri Jayanta Pradhan were present as guests. The event was made memorable by the launching of Machli - a Reliance Foundation
